Cathrine Mwendwa has over 12 years of experience in philanthropy and peace-building efforts across Kenya and the broader Africa region. Her work centers on co-designing dialogues, collaborating on research and transforming insights into actionable strategies for celebrating and strengthening African Philanthropic practices.
Cathrine leads Giving Tuesday Africa Hub, a global movement promoting generosity. She works with movement leaders and partners to design research initiatives, support collaborative projects, and create educational environments that celebrate and inspire generosity. In her previous experiences, she community-led research and action programs to strengthen women and youth-led peace-building initiatives in East Africa.
Her passion is exploring the link between generosity, solidarity and civic engagement, especially for women and young people in different contexts. She has found great fulfilment in her dedication to learning about Africa and building regional relationships. Catherine is a Senior International Fellow at the Centre of Philanthropy and Civil Society at the Graduate Centre, City University of New York. She serves on the Board of Wasafiri Consulting, a development partner working with leaders in building a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world
