The CAPSI-Mastercard project, titled “Contribution(s) of the Non-Profit Sector to African Economies with a specific focus on the creation of dignified and fulfilling work for young people in Africa”. The Project initiative aims to fill knowledge gaps about the non-profit sector’s economic contributions towards youth employment in 17 African countries. With a significant focus on marginalized youth, including those with disabilities, refugees, and young prisoners, the project seeks to understand the role of the sector in creating dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities.
It includes training for doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, emphasizing gender-responsive methodologies and youth studies. The project underscores the potential of the non-profit sector to contribute to GDP and job creation for youth, particularly those most marginalized. The 17 countries include Burkina Faso, DRC, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Invitation for Youth Participation
We are calling on young, passionate Africans from across 17 African countries to join us in Kigali, Rwanda, and Accra, Ghana, for regional convenings. These sessions aim to gather youth perspectives and expertise to refine our research methodologies and deepen engagement in our project.
Event Details
- Kigali, Rwanda Convening: East and Southern Africa, from 12th to 15th March
- Accra, Ghana Convening: North and West Africa, from 19th to 22nd March.
Eligibility
- Must be 35 years or younger
- We encourage youths affiliated with youth groups/organizations to apply
- Must be a citizen and a resident of the 17 countries
- Open to all genders, prioritizing inclusivity
- Youth from marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to apply
- Must have a valid passport
- An understanding of the contributions of the non-profit sector to economic development is an added advantage
Support Offered
CAPSI will cover airfare, accommodation, and a subsistence allowance for selected participants, ensuring broad accessibility. Only four youths will be selected from each country.
